Have you always dreamt of the day you would meet your son or daughter?
I know I did before having my sweet baby boy, Krew. Prior to becoming pregnant with him, I had never given natural/unmedicated childbirth a second thought. I was literally terrified of the birthing process and I wanted that epidural no matter what. I had always held a low pain tolerance, so essentially pushing a pumpkin out of my body was not high on my Bucket List. Nevertheless, I knew I wanted a family, so I would have to endure that someday, epidural or not.
Do you know that you don’t have to just “endure” the labor and birth process, but that you can LOVE it? Call me crazy, but it’s absolutely possible and YOU can do it too. Let me explain:
After learning I was pregnant, I began to do a TON of research on pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. I needed to know ALL of the information, advice, and tips I could retain in order to feel confident about my baby’s upcoming arrival. I searched the internet for techniques, tricks, and tried to educate myself on which birthing process was right for me.
At first, I chose to meet with a traditional OBGYN in Dallas, Texas. She was wonderful and I knew I could trust her judgement and experience as a childbirth professional. To my surprise, however, the moment I returned home from my first visit with her, I began looking up “natural” and “unmedicated” birthing options out of curiosity.
As I read through the various articles and blog posts, I started to feel a sense that I should give “natural childbirth” a shot. My family, who knew my low pain tolerance, was quite skeptical of my decision, but I loved the idea of trusting my body to do what it was made to, welcoming labor and birth as a natural and peaceful event that I could have complete control over, and not to mention the healing process claims were extremely appealing!
I began researching midwives in my area and found Modern Midwifery Dallas as my number one choice. After meeting with the two midwives, I left feeling more confident than EVER to birth my baby.
Fast-forward a few months later; I’m sitting in my hospital bed with my brand new baby and glowing-new-dad-of-a-husband, feeling the most EMPOWERING sensation I’ve ever felt. I successfully achieved an unmedicated, vaginal birth, without screaming in pain (not meant to scare new mamas), without my perineum tearing (the area between anus and vagina), and without feeling scared or afraid. It was truly peaceful and beautiful.
I LOVED giving birth!
I knew from that moment on, I wanted to help women just like me (who was once horrified of giving birth) to harness the strength and power within themselves to birth their baby the way THEY want to, medicated or unmedicated. I wanted to teach women and birth partners that they can feel empowered, be prepared, and love their birth.
That is when Birth Babe was born.
